Post-surgery update

We just met with Dr Pimiento who performed the surgery.

A few small nodules were found and checked beforehand. Labs came back not cancerous.

The tumor responded well to treatment and shrank enough that removal of the stomach and lower section of the esophagus and all proximate lymph nodes was sufficient. The doctor said it wasn't easy work but they got it out and the margins were good. No chest access or work on the colon were needed.

He had an epidural in case the more painful chest access was needed, so with that in place he should be fairly comfortable in recovery.

He has a nose tube while the reconstruction heals. On Monday they will test for leaks and go from there. We're not clear on if that is for feeding or if that is a separate tube.

If all goes well he will start chemo again in a month.

Everyone is doing pretty well here. Mom is very grateful to know that the cancer didn't spread but also starting to feel the weight of the lifestyle changes ahead, with Dad not being able to eat exactly like before. She's glad to have good news to tell him when he wakes up this time, unlike after the first endoscopy.
